Operation Instructions

SmCo Magnets Operation Instructions

Please refer to the instructions for use described below to use the magnet safely. Wrong operation and use may lead to functional failure and safety accidents. Please read the following instruction manual carefully before use.

• If equipped with an electronic medical device, such as a pacemaker or other electronic medical equipment related to magnets, it is very dangerous. When approaching the magnet, the device may fail, endangering personal health or causing serious harm.

• Keep magnets far away from children at all times.

• Slightly larger magnets, due to their strong attraction, must be handled with care, which may cause huge damage to hands or fingers and human body.

Note:In order to avoid personal injuries and functional faults, please do as the following Operation Instructions.

Design Guidelines

• SmCo magnets demagnetize as their temperature increases. Please consider the Temperature Coefficient and Maximum Working Temperature of the grade you are using (See Page 14). Not all the performance characteristics listed by NGYC are constant during operation – specific values depend on many factors including but not limited to the shape and dimensions of the SmCo magnet. NGYC recommend testing your application with samples of our products and documenting your own values before beginning the design process.

• If you require the SmCo magnets to be magnetized after assembly (See Page 13) please ensure you have appropriate magnetizing facilities. Feel free to contact for advice on such equipment.

• It is potentially very dangerous to bring SmCo magnets into contact with highly corrosive or highly conductive environments including but not limited to electrolytes, hydrogen, acid-based solutions and organic solvents. Such environments may impair product performance.

• SmCo magnets are characteristically hard and brittle making them difficult to manufacture without professional equipment. Feel free to contact for advice on how these characteristics may effect your application. Incorrect usage such as pressing may cause cracking in SmCo magnets. SmCo magents may also be damaged in designs that involve extreme drops (falling) or vibration.

• These same considerations should be taken into account in designs that involve high-speed rotation. Adhesives involved in the design using SmCo magnets should also have carefully tested bond strength before use in final production.

Assembly and Handling

• Both magnetized and non-magnetized SmCo magnets are characteristically hard and brittle. For this reason great care should be taken so that they do not encounter knocking or collision. The magnetic forces during magnetizing process is very strong and may cause the SmCo magnets to chip, crack or worse. Hence we should keep iron pieces or other magnetic material away from the site of magnetizing.

• It will cause unexpected serious harm to human body if put the hands or fingers in between the magnets or knives, metal chips and magnets placed nearby.

 • The industrial strength magnetism of SmCo magents, exposure to significant vibration may cause cracking or chipping – pieces of which may cause bodily harm.

• SmCo magnets placed in hollow coils may shift out of place if not properly affixed to their designed surface.

• Keep the SmCo magnets using in appropriate environment to avoid absorbing metal or magnetic dusts

• Surfaces should be free of oil and dust when bonding magnets to ensure strong adhesion.

Storage and Placement

• SmCo magnets should be stored in shockproof, moisture-proof and dust-proof environments and easily accessible on uncrowded shelves.

Other Considerations

• Keep SmCo magnets far away from storage media that use magnetism to encode data including but not limited to hard disk drives, tape backups etc.

• Keep SmCo magnets far away from unshielded electronic equipment. SmCo magnets may cause electrical equipment to malfunction or fail.

For More Advice

• Feel free to contact our Technical Department for any advice on the usage of NGYC magnetic products. Also, before you change the usage or change the way the device is used, please contact us to make sure the design or use is reasonable.
